Extended Day Hike

2 Class Sessions, 3 Hours
6th-12th

Students gain knowledge, skills, and comfort outdoors through a hike in the wilderness that explores the San Bernardino National Forest. They receive appropriate gear and supplies to prepare them for this 3-hour excursion. Students explore several different types of environments and are rewarded with sweeping views. Teachers can choose the focus of each hike, if desired.

What’s Covered

During this extended excursion, students venture out on Pali’s extensive trail system with an experienced instructor as their guide. Throughout their hike, students may partake in a variety of activities, including learning about the (10) essential items for backpacking, hiking etiquette & Leave No Trace, forest ecology, local plant identification, trail games and creating art out of nature.

Lessons & Activities

Hiking

Students venture out on one of Pali’s many scenic trails, periodically stopping to rest, hydrate and experience the forest in new ways.

Leave No Trace

While on their hike, students learn the principles of Leave No Trace, an ethical guide to hiking, backpacking and camping. They practice abiding by these guidelines, such as planning ahead & preparing for their hike, staying on designated trails and disposing of trash in appropriate receptacles.

Custom

Pali instructors add their own flare to each hike, incorporating nature games, forest ecology, art in nature or a visit to the reptiles in the Nature Center as part of their trek.
